20th October 2007. Dunston FFC 3 Seaham RS 1,  League Fixture.

.

Missing several key players Fed did well to gain all three points in an impressive game at Fed Park today. Fed, kicking towards the car park end, started brightly. In the first minute Preen headed down and Devine just failed to connect and seconds later Preen went on a run of his own and there were suspicions of him being held back but keeper Finch dived at his feet. After 6 minutes ex-Fed man JohnToft had the ball in the net but the flag was already up for offside - I was nowhere near this incident put people who were described it as “just offside”. It was Seaham who had an escape after 13 when a Pattinson corner hit a defender and had to be cleared off the line.

.
Fed were awarded a corner on the quarter hour and Johnson’s set-piece found Devine unmarked 6 yards out and he made no mistake with his header Fed’s joy was short-lived when 2 minutes later Toft received the ball on the right edge of the area and hit an unstoppable low effort into the bottom left to level matters. Within seconds of the restart the Seaham defence allowed a long ball to bounce and Ludlow seemed to connect perfectly but his effort (for the second match running) cracked off the bar. 2 minutes later Toft went on a good run and reached the edge of the area where his effort was blocked. Fed went close after 25 when Devine collected the ball just inside the visitors’ half and was allowed to carry the ball before trying a dipping 30 yard effort which just cleared the bar. Red Star hit back and Toft got the ball on the left touchline and put in a dangerous cross towards Jennings but Ben Johnson got in a saving tackle for a corner. Fed missed a great chance after 35 when once again the visiting defence allowed a Clark kick to bounce and Preen got clear and his first time half-volley was inches wide. Within seconds Devine was played clear but keeper Finch was inches ahead in the race for the ball. It was end to end and from a (dubious) free kick Toft got clear on the right and Jennings should have done better but his deft touch went wide. Fed retook the lead after 37 - Preen did well to head on a Clark clearance into the path of Devine whose vicious first time effort gave the keeper no chance. After 41 Jennings hit a shot on the turn but Clark made the shot look easy. With the last chance of the first half - the impressive looking Watson crossed from the left but Clark tipped the ball over as Jennings looked poised to head in at the far post. A good first half and the promise of more to come.
.

The second half started slowly and Fed received a blow when Johnson was forced to go off injured and was replaced by Andy McIntosh. After 10 minutes of the half Pattinson was injured after a horrendous tackle and with Fed temporarily down to 10 men they were awarded a corner on the left. McIntosh’s in-swinging corner deceived the keeper and James Taylor made no mistake from close range with a header. Pattinson was unable to continue and was replaced by Swanston. Red Star hit back and from a long cross from the right Jennings rose above the defence and forced a good safe from Clark.

.

After 83 some good work from Ludlow and Devine on the right created a good chance for Campbell who hit over. As the game approached stoppage time Stephen Halliday tried a delicate chip which was straight into the hands of Clark. Even in stoppage time the visitors had not given up and from a 25 yard quickly taken free-kick Jennings found space on the right and crossed low where Toft hit wide. 4 minutes of stoppage time was played but in fairness Red Star never really threatened. A good game and a good 3 points.
